After traveling to the center of the Earth, Sean Anderson, now 17, has been at the usual teen schemes lately. His latest crime lands him to finding something extraordinary, a key to a chunk of land in the Pacific Ocean. Sean teams up with his stepfather, Hank, to get there, and they meet an overeager chopper pilot, and his teenage daughter, to get to Sean's grandfather, Alexander, only to discover the mysterious island.
Ever since his adventure in the center of the Earth, Sean Anderson has been looking for other places mentioned by Verne and other Vernians. He is notified about a coded message, and breaks into a satellite facility to fully receive it. With the help from his stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson) he decodes the message leading him to find the map that leads him to Verne's mysterious island. Along with Gabato and Kailani, Sean embarks on a mission to find his grandfather, the legendary Vernian Alexander. But unexpected problems arise as Alexander made a mistake that could change everything.
Did not know what to expect as I didn't see the first one - but they are totally unrelated so it didn't matter. My 9 year old wanted to see it so we ended up going. I'm not a lover of sci-fi but this movie was a perfect family movie and we laughed out loud lots of times. Nothing gory or scary. It was a light and refreshingly, fun movie. Had four different movie personalities of all ages and genders amongst us (2 kids, 2 adults) - and all of us loved it. We didn't expect it would also be a laugh out loud movie and that is what made it unexpectedly great! Go one, go all - this movie has it all: action, comedy, romance, sci-fi, and good family fun!
This adventure ride of a movie, was fun for the most part, but it&#39;s not film you will be going in to expect to much,but instead just an adventure film like the first Journey film. It never tries to anything more. The effects are alright in some scenes, but in others they seem overdone.<br/><br/>Josh Hutchenson is alright, but I&#39;m really surprised that he did this, for a while he seem to be getting away from those kiddie roles. Vanessa Hugens is just inti has eye candy and nothing more, even she looks bored for the most part. Luis Guman is pretty funny, so was Dwayne THE ROCK Johnson, and Michael Caine is memorable too as Hutchensons grandfather, but his annoyance towards Dwayne&#39;s character made no sense.
This is transcendently goofy. It isn't a "good" movie in the usual sense (or most senses), but it is jolly and good-natured, and Michael Caine and Dwayne Johnson are among the most likable of actors.
It is considered a sequel to <a href="/title/tt0373051/">Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008)</a> (2008) as the character of Sean Anderson is in both films, but the story is completely different with a whole new adventure so you don&#39;t have to see the first one to understand this one. Yes. A short called &quot;Daffy&#39;s Rhapsody&quot; is shown along with the movie in theaters. It takes the 1950 Capitol Record song &quot;The Daffy Duck Rhapsody&quot;, sung by legendary Mel Blanc, and puts animation to it. Coincidentally, the short is falling on Daffy Duck&#39;s 75th anniversary, as the character debuted in 1937. (1) The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, (2) Gulliver&#39;s Travels by Jonathan Swift, and (3) Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The three books all pertain to islands, and all three of the books shown in the film contain a partial map within the first few pages of the books. When the maps are placed on top of each other (with the compass points lined up to north) and a light is shone from beneath, the full map and coordinates of Verne&#39;s &quot;Mysterious Island&quot; are revealed.
